Description

A plant of many names including Silver Dollar, Money plant and Moonwort. It is loved for it’s spring flowers and silvery seed cases.

Cut off branches when the seed heads are clearly drying out. Hang the branches upside down in a dry place and, when fully dry, carefully rub off the out membranes to reveal the beautiful silvery discs ready to use in cut/dried flower arrangements.

This biennial can either be sown directly outdoors in late summer or early spring, or start them indoors in seed trays. For indoor sowing, refrigerate the seeds for a few weeks first to stratify them, then sow in trays, cover lightly with soil, and place in a warm spot – germination can take around 21 days. Whether sown indoors or out, cover seeds lightly, keep the soil moist, and once established, the plants will often self-seed readily for future years.  Plant out or thin plants to 30-40 cm (12-16”) apart. Plant height 60-90m (2-3 ft).
