Description
Known for it’s vibrant veined leaf bracts, Salvia (Clary Sage) is loved for its soft, romantic look and delightful fragrance. It produces tall spikes of blooms in shades of pink, blue and white.
This plant is a magnet for bees and butterflies and blooms through summer into early autumn, adding a long-lasting splash of colour.
It thrives in sunny spots with well-drained soil and doesn’t need much fuss — just some sunshine and the occasional drink of water. It’s perfect for flower borders, pollinator gardens and makes a great cut flower.
In short, it’s a low-maintenance fvourite that brings a soft, cheerful energy wherever it’s planted.
How to grow: Indoors Feb-April, Outdoors May-June. Indoor sowings: Surface sow on a tray or pot of fine seed compost, water carefully and place in a plastic bag or propagator in a sunny, warm position. Germination can be slow so patience required! Once big enough to handle, pot on into individual pots before planting out into flowering position once risk of frost has passed spacing 30-45cm (12-18”) apart. Water only during dry spells. Outdoor sowings: surface sow, firming seeds in gently. Keep moist until established then thin to 30-45cm (12-18”) apart.
