Description
Gerbera’s bright, vibrant daisy-like flowers on long elegant stems make a showy cut flower. Best grown under cover but can thrive in a warm, sunny position outdoors. A great conservatory plant that will be sure to attract the attention of visitors.
How to grow: In February-March prepare a tray of fine, lightly firmed down compost. Water the surface then sprinkle seeds over and press down lightly (they need light to germinate). Place tray in a warm and sunny position, or a heated propagator if possible. Germination takes approx. 21 days. Once seedlings are big enough to handle transplant into individual pots. Pot on further as and when necessary. Wait until after the last frosts (typically the beginning of June) before moving outdoors. A warm climate perennial, indoor plants will bloom again the following year but these should really be considered a half-hardy annual in the UK. Plant height 30cm (12”).
