Description

Strawflower (Xerochrysum bracteatum)

An everlasting flower producing many petalled flowers in whites, yellows, pinks and reds all with a yellow daisy like centre. Perfect for cutting and bringing colour to dried arrangements. Best regarded as an annual in the UK and started off indoors in early Spring – originating in Australia it ideally needs a long growing season.

How to grow: Indoors in February-April sow onto a tray of firmed, fine seed compost before covering with just a dusting of compost (light is needed for germination). Keep the surface moist. Once big enough to handle, pot on into individual pots and acclimatise to cooler conditions before planting out with a spacing 30cm (12”) once all risk of frost has passed. Cut flower with stems and hang upside down to dry. Plant height up to 90cm (3ft).
