Description
Sea Holly – Eryngium planum
Easy to grow with excellent germination results. The striking blue flowers are extremely attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Flower spikes can be cut for arrangements.
How to grow: The seeds benefit from stratification (a cold period) for good germination, putting the packet of seeds in the fridge for a week or two can mimic this effectively. Sea Holly can be sown in Spring or Autumn but does not like root disturbance so is best sown directly outdoors. Surface sow on a well prepared, weed free seed bed and gently press to firm in. Keep moist until germinated. Thin to 45cm (18”) apart. Plant height 75cm (30”). Germination can be slow so patience in required!
